The 3 Way Thrift Store mission is raising funds for Inland Christian Home which provides comprehensive programs and health care services for elderly in a Christian setting, Salem Christian Homes which provides Christian assisted living homes for adults with developmental disabilities, and Ontario Christian School providing Christ centered education for students in prekindergarten through 12th grade.
The idea of a thrift store to help raise funds for these organizations really began to grow when a few interested people began to meet and discuss the possibilities of a thrift store. The first meeting was held on June 3, 1993. The consensus of all was that the concept was feasible, practical and laudable. The driving question was, how do we go about getting it started?
An “Organization Committee” of seven members was appointed and they accepted the mandate to organize a thrift store for the benefit of Inland Christian Home, Salem Christian Homes and Ontario Christian Schools. To put their mandate into reality, the decision was to form and operate as a non-profit corporation, apply for the name 3 Way Thrift Store Inc., rent a location, develop a board of directors numbering eleven and ask for start up support dollars.
The Board investigated many locations for the store and finally agreed that the best location was the 6000 sq. ft. building located at 13320 Central Ave. in Chino, California. Once work on the building was completed, the volunteer staff began to move in and place the fixtures and many donated items were offered for sale. During the last week of April, 1994 the store was “Opened for Business” six days a week from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM with a Grand Opening celebration on Saturday July 16, 1994.
The 3 Way Thrift Store is a ministry for the Lord. He has truly blessed this project. As business has grown so had the need to expand. Thus, to meet that need, in the summer of 2001 the 3 Way Thrift Store, Inc. moved into its new 15,000 sq. ft. store they built on property purchased at 13390 Central Ave. in Chino, and then in February of 2006 they opened their second store located in a rented 10,000 sq. ft. building located at 10174 Central Ave. in Montclair. |
